Wave Tensile Structure
A flowing membrane canopy formed through alternating structural and tensioned high-low profiles.
System overview and suitable applications
Wave tensile structures provide continuous architectural coverage across long spaces. Repeated modules, seam direction, drainage valleys and support spacing require coordinated design.
Best Suited For
Walkways, parking rows, school areas, malls, transport zones and commercial landscapes.
Design Advantage
Continuous modular coverage with dramatic movement and strong long-elevation appearance.
Customization
Dimensions, column positions, roof profile, membrane color, steel finish and accessories can be coordinated around the approved site layout.
Typical construction specification
| Element | Typical Options | Project Review |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Structure | Repeated steel frames or masts, longitudinal members, edge cables and tension plates. | Member sizes and thicknesses are finalized according to span, geometry, loads and approved engineering scope. |
| Shade Cover | PVC/PVDF membrane patterned and tensioned to achieve the approved wave form. | UV performance, tensile strength, waterproofing, fire rating, color and warranty are reviewed. |
| Steel Protection | Hot-dip galvanizing, epoxy system, powder coating or project-approved paint | Selected for corrosion exposure, appearance and maintenance. |
| Connections | Fabricated plates, bolts, welds, tensioning hardware and accessories | Coordinated for structural load path, erection and service. |
| Foundation Interface | Base plates, anchor bolts and concrete foundations, or approved existing supports | Reactions, soil/site condition, embedment, edge distances and drainage are considered. |
Engineering and fabrication requirements
Site & Layout
Dimensions, clear heights, access, boundaries and obstacles are verified before final design.
Structural Coordination
Dead load, wind, uplift, members, connections, base plates, anchors and foundation reactions are reviewed as required.
Fabrication Control
Cutting, fit-up, welding, dimensions, surface preparation, coating and identification are checked before dispatch.
Installation methodology
- Confirm setting-out points, access, utilities and approved foundations.
- Complete foundations or verify approved supports and anchors.
- Erect members with controlled lifting, temporary stability and alignment.
- Complete connections, bolting and coating touch-ups.
- Fit and tension the membrane or roof system in the approved sequence.
- Inspect alignment, coating, connections, tension, drainage and site condition.
- Close snags and complete agreed handover documentation.
Maintenance and warranty guidance
Periodic inspection should cover membrane condition, seams, hardware, connections, coating damage, corrosion, anchors and drainage. Warranty coverage depends on the approved manufacturer, material system, workmanship scope, exposure and contract conditions.
Project note: Final section sizes, grades, coating, foundations and performance criteria follow approved project-specific documents.
